Lock-down
This weekend, Burke discovered my chixxx laying eggs in the goat manger! Sure, it's cozy and dark in there, with fresh, soft hay, but they must drop those gifts in the laying boxes. If they start nesting in various other places, then finding the eggs becomes a seek 'n' find. So...the girls are on 'lock-down'. They are still free to roam, but only in their yard and John's garden. So now, the goat yard is SO attractive they just can't stand it. And that tiny door that provided access to the goat yard is now covered with wire, posing a mystery every day. It's so funny to go out and find them haranguing at the fence, demanding freedom. I love me some chixxx...
The goats are a bit puzzled. They've been used to the chixxx running around their feet, scratching, clacking and clucking! I like having them together and hope to soon reunite the species. But for now, the eggs are just where I want them...
The Fed-Ex van arrived today with a surprise birthday package for me! It was from Ali. She sent me a sweet birthday note, along with a book we'd discussed while sitting on the porch Saturday morning. I'd read The History of Love by this author, and she'd enjoyed reading this book by her as well.
It's heart-warming to be remembered, but especially with such a thoughtful gift.
